Shaddap!

Okay, one more picture of a Superhero, and then I'm done. At least for now.

Today's Hero de Jour is Black Canary, a costumed hero I know virtually nothing about. Well, I do know that when she starts screaming, it's trouble. Actually, that's true of a lot of women I've known, but in the Canary's case, her screams are super-powerful. When she tells  you to pick your underwear up off the bedroom floor, believe me, you better pick up them undergrunts.

As I said, I know next to nothing about this heroine. So why did I draw her? I dunno. This is one of those mindless doodles that became a finished piece. So, since I've been posting my hero drawings lately, I thought this would make a good space filler.

This is the end of the hero pictures here. For now, at least. Next time, we'll be back to the heapin' helpin's of hilarity that you've all come to know and love.

Or at least tolerate.

Flash in the Pan

Another day, another drawing of a superhero. This time it's that zippy little rascal, The Flash. His power, for those of you outta the loop, is that he is fast. Really fast. This guy is never late for anything, I bet.

I've been doodling a lot of superheroes lately. I don't know why. I've never been asked to draw them professionally, for reasons the illustration here makes obvious. I don't even read superhero comics all that often.

Recently, though, I did read a comic book featuring costumed heroes. A big one.  A very nice friend gave me a copy of "DC Comics' Wednesday Comics". It's an oversize collection of superhero tales done by  various writer/artist teams in the style of the ol'  Sunday newspaper adventure strip format. It's a fun concept, and the artwork is,  for the most part, fantastic. The stories, though, are a bit hum-drum. Just a lot of the same old heroes facing the same old challenges. Kind of a yawn, for the most part.

As I said, though, the art is (mostly) great, and I suggest you check  the book out, if you have a chance.

Or maybe I can just keep posting my crappy superhero drawings here for all of you to "enjoy". That's a lot cheaper than buying the book!

Birthday Beagle

In  case you forgot to mark it on your calendars, Sunday is Rocco the Wonder Dog's birthday. He's six years old!

We don't have anything elaborate planned for the day. Most likely Rocco will just relax with his best friends/chew toys, Itchy the Flea and Squirrelly the Squirrel. We can't invite any of his doggy pals over, because he doesn't have any. Rocco doesn't really care for other dogs. He prefers the company of people, since they are far more likely to be eating something that they might be willing to share with him.

So Rocco is a year older. Sadly, he is not a year wiser. He still fails to understand that the rug under my desk is not the spot for him to use for bathroom emergencies. Maybe though, Rocco knows exactly what he is doing, and it is I that am getting no wiser if I expect him to change his behavior. That's probably it.

Whatever. Rocco brings such joy into our lives that I guess I can put up with a little piddle every now and again.

Only a little, though!

Matter Eating Lad!

Sometimes an image pops into your head and you need to scribble it down as quick as you can. That happened to me today when I was talking to my pal, the multi-talented John. As we were chatting, Matter Eating Lad, one of the heroes from the comic series, The Legion of Superheroes, happened to come up in the conversation. The result is the doodle you see here.

I know what you are thinking: How does something like Matter Eating Lad enter into the conversation of two grown men?

My question to you is: How does it not?

I won't explain my drawing here for the uninitiated among you, but you should know that Matter Eating Lad is a lad. Who eats matter.

You connect the dots.
