Shaddap!

Okay, one more picture of a Superhero, and then I'm done. At least for now.

Today's Hero de Jour is Black Canary, a costumed hero I know virtually nothing about. Well, I do know that when she starts screaming, it's trouble. Actually, that's true of a lot of women I've known, but in the Canary's case, her screams are super-powerful. When she tells  you to pick your underwear up off the bedroom floor, believe me, you better pick up them undergrunts.

As I said, I know next to nothing about this heroine. So why did I draw her? I dunno. This is one of those mindless doodles that became a finished piece. So, since I've been posting my hero drawings lately, I thought this would make a good space filler.

This is the end of the hero pictures here. For now, at least. Next time, we'll be back to the heapin' helpin's of hilarity that you've all come to know and love.

Or at least tolerate.

She reminds me of a lot of the women I work with.

I'm really enjoying these superheroes Bill!

You are such a tease, Bill! Putting up yet another wonderful superhero toon....and then saying there will be no more! Cruel!! Although I am not a Black Canary fan, this illustration is awesome! Your work is just pure beauty to me...don't know if you are an artistic genius...or I just have some kind of genetic disorder. You should create your own superhero blog with the continued heroics of your own superhero creations...like The Amazing Adventures of The Caped Caricaturist with his sidekick Blog Boy and their mascot Rocco the Wonderdog as they battle their archenemy: The Evil Earwig!!!!

Thanks for sharing these great superhero pics, and I hope it won’t be too long until you make more.

I must confess that black canary is one of my least favorite superheroes. First of all, what’s up with the name? Black canary? Did she come up with the name after her favorite canary died from black lung after a stint in the local coal mine? And the costume? She looks more like a chorus girl than a superhero.

the canary cry came late in her silver age revival, and also makes little sense. Canaries sing beautifully, but her canary cry is a horrible shriek.

She was an earth 2 character, but o’niel and adams somehow had her living on earth one. Then somebody try to reconcile everything but only muddied the waters with a lame tale of black canary being the daughter of the original and somehow getting the canary cry during a trip between dimensions. Or something like that. Yeesh.

Thanks for the kind words kids. As I thought I pointed out, I have almost zero interest in Black Canary, but cute comic chicks are always fun to draw.

I only said you wouldn't be seeing any more heroic doodles from me because my intent is to post some more of my witty observations on life and cartoons in the upcoming weeks. However, since I seem to be lacking in anything chuckle-inducing to say, I may just plaster the site with more of this Superhero stuff.

Hey, it's better than me rambling on about Doctor Who or toys, right?!

How about posting some current work you've done for work? Always like to know what people are doing besides the fun sketches in their free time.

I happen to like Black Canary, especially as she is now written by the writer, Gail Simone. Several artists, Neal Adams, Garcia-Lopez and Ed Benes, have drawn her beautifully. Now we may add Bill White to that list!

She began as a forties fetish heroine with fishnets (In reality, she was a brunette who put on the blond wig as a disguise!). Her only power back in the Golden Age was a mean Judo throw. Now she can take down Superman for a few seconds with her might "Canary Cry"! Ya just gotta love it!

Scott- I am always leery about posting my currant work, as I am never sure I have the right to. I will check with my currant employers, and if they say "okay", I'll post some stuff.

Steve_ You are the only person who will ever use my name and Neal Adams' in the same sentence.
