Happy Donut Day!

Today we honor the brave men and women in our nation who make our country great. They are the few, the proud, the Donut Makers.

In case you missed it, today, June Fourth, is National Donut Day. It is the day we take a moment and reflect on our love for these spherical bits of goodness and the minimum-wage earning souls whose sacrifices bring them to us.

I know that all good citizens will be honoring the day by stopping and partaking in at least one sweet, round bit of heaven. I know I will. The question is: What donut to get? I myself favor the classic Krispy Kreme™, but since there isn't a franchise anywhere near me, I may have to settle for the more pedestrian Dunkin' Donuts™. Despite their name, DD seems to be more about coffee than donuts. Their chocolate donut is pretty decent though, so I may celebrate with that.

Remember though, today is all about the donuts, so don't dishonor the day by ordering a Bear Claw or a Bismark. Even if you are one of those twisted souls that eats a Boston Creme, stick to the donuts.

Only in the good ol' U.S. of A. could we have a National Donut Day. It almost makes me proud to live in this great nation!

Of course, I would be prouder if I lived near a Krispy Kreme™...

National Donut Day?? National Donut Day!! I never heard about this day before in my life...now it's all over Blog World & Facebook World! Of course I just started a diet Monday because I am seeing a friend from college and I have to lose 37.5 pounds before next Friday. So the universe throws Donut Day at me to make this even harder! If I wasn't on a diet, I would have driven freely around Massachusetts enjoying freshly made magically free donuts (God's gift to chubby men)! The entire universe is against me! What's tomorrow? It's Raining Yummy Creme Puffs Day??!!!
Oh, and Bill, there used be a Krispy Kreme right near my house....made my life complete....but then they closed it and put up a...VITAMIN STORE!!!!
Leave me be, Universe!!!

eeteed- I had never heard of Fastnachts before, but after a quick investigation on the interweb, I have learned all about them, and they appear to be magically delicious. On my next swing through your neck of the woods I must have one. Funny, I always thought Scrapple was your people's only contribution to American cuisine!

Anonymous- After all these years, I still have never spotted a peanut donut for sale.

Chris- I think I know of the Krispy Kreme™ location you mentioned. Thanks to fast food karma, the vitamin store has gone out of business, too.

David- Fret not. For you, there are always Chocolate Cheerios!

scrapple (shudders) i've never had the nerve to try that frankenstein-food.

in my humble opinion the most important food that the pa dutch came up with is shoe fly pie!

i can't imagine a world without shoe fly pie!

eeteed- Must also try a Shoofly pie, someday. My, I may have to do my own version of "Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives', in PA!

As for my animation "career", I have started to write about it several times, both here and on the TV website I sometimes write for. I do have a LOT of stories to tell, but I don't want to burn any bridges, or worse, hurt anyone's feelings. I'd still like to do animation work again, someday. For now, you can check out my resume on Lambiek.com or Wikipedia.I do promise someday to tell the whole story. If you have any specific questions, you can email me directly, and I will answer any questions you have. Likewise for anyone reading this: If you have anything you'd like to hear me write about, either let me know here in the comments section, or email me, and I'll do my best.

We have no Krispy Kreme's around me anymore. It came out how bad they were for you to eat and they died a few months later and were out of business. There were two by me and they had prime spots, but if you look at the calories and garbage in them, you'd be dead. Haha. I ate a half of one and that was enough for me. Too sweet.

Scott-

The first time I ate a Krispy Kreme, I ate half a one and blacked out. When I awoke, I discovered I had eaten the whole box. Different strokes for different folks, I guess.

On another note, I got a pad of that paper you recommended, and after a few quick experiments, it was all you promised, I love it!

I would say as thanks, if we ever meet, I would buy you a Krispy Kreme, but I guess that's out. Would you settle for a Scooby Snack?

Ah! Glad you liked the paper. It is good! I'm not sure how I came across it myself. I used to use a certain brand and then I heard they were to stop making it and so I bought a TON of it and it laste till about 2004 or so. So I needed to find another brand and came upon the new type after trying a few different brands. It just worked better with the materials I used to draw.

Scott-

I have already begun planning on hoarding pads of this paper. My experience tells me as soon as start to rely on an art supply, it is discontinued or the "formula" is changed. I'm sure that right now at the paper company an executive is circulating a memo detailing "upgrades" to the paper that will render it useless!

For those wondering, the paper we're discussing is Borden & Riley #234 Bleedproof Paper for Pens. It comes in pads of various sizes. You folks who use Microns and brush pens have to try it!
